Accessibility

Windsor Community United Methodist Church is blessed with a building that meets ADA standards. Accessible bathrooms, flexible seating, and a building that is all one level make it possible for people of all ages and abilities to participate in church and community activities here. Words and images are projected on a screen in large, readable fonts, and the sound system is quite good. But “accessibility” is about more than these things; it is also an attitude of flexibility, grace and dignity. We are not perfect at this, but we listen and adapt to needs as they are presented. We use microphones rather than assuming that “everyone can hear me.” We have several chairs with armrests, and will move them freely wherever they will help. We encourage people to sit where they are comfortable and where they can see and hear. When volunteer scripture readers want or need to, they may elect not to step up to the platform; we’ll bring a handheld microphone to them, or hold the mic for them. We bring communion to those who prefer to stay in their seats. Many of our worshipers live with disabling conditions, physical and/or cognitive. All are encouraged to participate and offer their gifts to this beautiful mosaic of a community. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Pastor Laurie or the church office.
