THE POWER OF THE CIRCLE: Healing Through Dialogue

Please bring your friends so we can learn together how we might prevent violence through Restorative Circles to:

Transform Conflict – Build Community – Repair Harm

Violence is a disease because it is not inherent to the human condition, and both its causes and effects are highly contagious. Even the CDC claimed this idea several years ago. To stop the infection of violence we must understand another’s suffering as our own and commit ourselves wholeheartedly to changing social structures that condone violence. Restorative Justice is not a new concept; it was used by our ancestors and kept alive by our First Nations – our Indigenous Tribes who live on every continent of our beautiful blue planet.

Jeanna King-Ruppel, a Restorative Specialist with Santa Rosa City Schools, has kindly agreed to share her natural wisdom and expertise with us having spent almost 2 decades facilitating and guiding teachers and students in “RJ Circles” in our local schools. These Community Circles, even in court cases, give everyone the opportunity to share their voices to identify harms and make things better.

At its very core Restorative Practices is a deeply held trust in the innate capacity of all people to discover:

*Growth in Adversity.

*Extract wisdom from Challenges.

*Listen deeply to better understand all perspectives.

*Respectful dialogue – speaking authentically from the heart.

Refreshments will be served after the conclusion of the 10:30 am Sunday worship celebration, with the workshop beginning at noon. Depending on the number of participants, we may have time to get into circles and practice the Restorative Justice principles ourselves!
