SunDay Celebration of Solar

Solar energy is now the cleanest and cheapest way you can power your home or business. It’s affordable, reliable, and it’s good for your family’s health and their future. It’s the fastest-growing source of energy in the world – but powerful interests are doing their best to stop the energy transition at every turn. SunDay is a national mobilization on September 21, 2025 that will celebrate the power of solar and wind energy and stand up to the wealthy and well-connected who are doing everything they can to stand it its way.  We are joining this national grassroots effort supported by United Methodist activist Bill McKibben and many others, showing our friends and neighbors that clean energy isn’t just about new technology – it’s about people coming together to create a better future for us all. The event is being held on September 21 for two reasons: first, because it’s the solar equinox — one of two days of the year when all of the world gets an equal amount of sunlight, showing how the sun unites us. Second, September 21st is right before the UN General Assembly’s annual meeting, which means we have an opportunity to send a message to US and world leaders on the urgent need to accelerate and scale-up the just transition to clean energy. Following worship on that day, church trustees will explain the recently-installed heat pump that replaced our building’s traditional HVAC system. Kirk Harris will update us on his clean-burning stove project (and serve applesauce cooked on it). Albert Bayen will demonstrate the simple solar panel-powered battery he has set for emergencies and camping “off-grid.” EV and hybrid owners will share what they love about their cars. And we’ll serve “sun tea” and other refreshments. Invite your friends! If you’d like to show your car or help in some other way, contact Pastor Laurie.
